The Troop had a website in the early 2000's. Most of the old website was archived by archive.org's Wayback Machine. You can view the old site by clicking the links below. Much of the information on this website originated from there.

Media Archives

Various Castleton, NY Scouting America Troops have been in the news over the years. Below is a list of archived newspapers, town documents, and other forms of media that contains information about Troop 53, Troop 253, Pack 253, or Sea Scout Crew 153.

To the best of our ability, we believe all hosted media's copyright either has expired or can fall under fair-use. Most media is either:

  • In the public domain.
    • (published before 1928, or published by the government).
    • Published before 1978 that did not have a copyright notice.
    • Published between 1978-1989 that did not have a copyright notice and did not get a copyright registered.
  • Could fall under fair use.
    • This website generates no profit.
    • Most hosted files are non-fictional, fact-based news articles.
    • Articles are no longer in print, and not accessible online from the original publisher.

If you own the copyright of an article and do not agree with this, please reach out to admin@bsatroop53.com. If it is a legit claim, it will be taken down from our file server. Bare in mind, we have no control over archive.org, you'll have to contact them directly to take down any files hosted there. We also have no control over IPFS. Their contact information is here.

Each file has three links associated with it:

  • Direct - Link to the original file. Use this one to start with.
  • Web Archive - An alternative link in case the original file went down. This is powered by archive.org's Wayback Machine. Use this one if the direct link fails.
  • IPFS Link - Another alternative link in case the previous mentioned links no longer work. See this page on Wikipedia on what IPFS is. Use this link as a last resort; it takes the longest to download, and may not even work.
